  1. Hey, I am a graduate student and I have been working on a FEM Soil-Structure Interaction Software. I am planning to use ParaView as the post-processing software.
The problem is that I need to show the boundary conditions and am finding it difficult to visualize it. The glyph is nice, but we cannot use it as we need some different glyphs/symbols, so that i can use it to represent my boundary conditions at certain nodes.

  2. I would like to visualize specific parts of large, multi-block datasets using the Multi-Block Inspector. Currently I rely on a Python script to extract each block. This Python script gets slower as the number of blocks in the dataset grows. The Multi-block Inspector would solve this problem if I could match my name for the blocks to the block indices conveniently.

  3. The Tecplot reader is very usefull, but it should be further improved because many Tecplot files (written by the user according to Tecplot format specifications or written by Tecplot itself !) still cannot be read !

I am usually using Structured grid, and the Tecplot reader works fine for most of my ASCII files, except for those that are written by Tecplot itself and that contain the STRANDID and SOLUTIONTIME tokens that are currently unsupported. I have to remove these unsupported tokens from all ZONE headers before reading with Paraview. May I suggest to ignore those unsupported tokens with just…

  4. It would be great to be able to interpolate the scalars on a wrapped colorspace before mapping them. This would be very useful to obtain nice representations of cyclical phenomenae.

  5. When you load a state, you have the option to change the data file used. It would be nice if when you have loaded a state, you could right click the data file in the pipeline browser to select another data file (or alternatively, change the file name property in the pipeline, or drag and drop a file into its place).

This would save time when you have many data files in the same format to visually inspect, for example many runs of the same experiment under various different conditions.

  6. The moab group already has a plugin, but you need to build paraview on your own to use it.

  7. A conversion reader for Abaqus/CFD files would enable us to postprocess fluid dynamics problems in Paraview

  8. ParaView has a button to fetch server configuration. It would be nice to have a fetch plugins, using the same url source. This way all the resources for paraview can be stored in the same place.

  9. I see that it's been requested for quite a while! It'd be marvelous if you could just obtain the difference, union or intersection of two shapes with a click of a button... Just saying....

  10. When Pipeline is very large, it would be useful to filter the display in Pipeline Browser.
    For example :
    - ability to display only active filters of the selected RenderView/Layout
    - search bar

  11. In now time paraview support only creating contour lines on pressure p.
If I want to create the countour line on velocity, which is not allowed by countour, I need to use 'Calculator' field with command "mag(V)", then I've got my Result, and only then I can use this Result in the countour filter to make the lines on my velocity magnitude

  12. Right now quantities are associated to nodes or elements, but in electromagnetics some quantities are naturally associated to faces (fluxes) or edges (magnetomotive forces) and special finite elements (nedelec / raviart-thomas) can be used to interpolate such quantities. Is support for such entities planned? If not how difficult would it be to implement it?

  13. I think that Julia is the next best scientific programming language. CFD, FEM, Magnetic, and other solvers, as well as filters could be written right inside Paraview, and executed with decent performance. The same code can be developed as stand-alone functions.

  14. Multi-block inspector shows the blocks by index and not by alphabetical order.

Block indices list (when you execute Extract block filter) shows the same list.
It is easier to select blocks in a alphabetical list (or to have the possibility to change order of this list).

  16. MRC is a file format for imaging data in 3D electron microscopy, where the result of the technique is a three-dimensional grid of voxels each with a value corresponding to scattering potential. It was developed by the MRC (Medical Research Council) Laboratory of Molecular Biology. This file format is supported by many software suites for molecular biology that support volumetric data, such as IMOD and Chimera. The file format is described in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MRC_(file_format), see also http://www2.mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk/image2000.html and http://bio3d.colorado.edu/imod/doc/mrc_format.txt.

There is an ITK module that contains classes for reading and writing image files in the MRC file format, see …

  17. Paraview can handle drag and drop for data files (great feature) but not for state files.
Also make drag and drop working for plugins. (copy the plugin file to some safe place .config/... and check the Auto Load). This can make using plugins much easier for new people.

And have a central place (wiki maybe) with a list of the community plugins (compiled or in source).

Great job and Merry Christmas to all.

  19. Adding functionality to represent a 3D object filled.
After using slice for example only the contour line is showed of a sphere. The representation mode volume instead of surface would be nice.

Only one core used even if "enable multicore for data processing" is ticked
