being able to save selection.
it would be extremely useful to being able to save a selection, either in a separate file or in the current state. also the order of the selection should remain the same.

Stereo mode for FPR (film pattern retard) passive stereo 3D TV (LG's)?
What stereo mode should I use to display on FPR (film pattern retard) passive stereo 3D TV (LG's)? I've tried every --stereo-type with 3.10.1 but could not find.

Modernize VMRL and OBJ readers
VRML reader should support aliased materials, OBJ reader should support MTL files (suggested by David E DeMarle)

Hi. Could you post some recommended hardware configurations?
It would be really useful to know how to divide up a £2K/£4K/£6K spend on a workstation optimized for paraview 3D rendering - is it worth spending on lots of multi-core CPUs? Lots of RAM presumably - is it worth spending ~£3K on a CAD level GPU with 6GB of memory? There doesn't appear to be much easy to access info on this on the web (maybe buried somewhere)....

Extend FileSeriesReaderProxy for files named by Date & Time
Extend ParaView's FileSeriesReaderProxy to step through files named by date & time rather than by integers in a filename.
This documentation explains how to use FileSeriesReaderProxy to animte over files named foo1.xyz, foo2.xyz, ... fooN.xyz.
http://paraview.org/Wiki/Animating_legacy_VTK_file_seriesHowever, this doesn't work with filesnamed by date and time (Year-Month-Day-Hour-Minute-Second):
foo1995-03-21T00-00-00.xyz
foo1995-03-21T01-00-00.xyz
...
foo1995-03-21T23-00-00.xyz
foo1995-03-22T00-00-00.xyz
...Inspired from discussions on the mailing list http://www.paraview.org/pipermail/paraview/2010-December/019663.html

report progress during state loading
Loading from state with complex pipelines on client server mode takes a LONG time. much longer than an end to end update of the same pipeline. When there are multiple views involved it's exponentially longer. During this time there is absolutely no indication of whats going on, progress is not reported. PV should report the progress of each filter as state is loaded.

embed a thumbnail in state files for preview
embed a thumbnail screen capture that was taken at the time state was saved. Then use this embedded image in the file open dialog as a preview.

edge elements
Right now quantities are associated to nodes or elements, but in electromagnetics some quantities are naturally associated to faces (fluxes) or edges (magnetomotive forces) and special finite elements (nedelec / raviart-thomas) can be used to interpolate such quantities. Is support for such entities planned? If not how difficult would it be to implement it?

Support of integration points in finite elements
Paraview is a wonderful program. What is please the current status of integration points on unstructured mesh ? Mapping of stress/strain to nodes presents a lot of troubles and may violate discontinuity. Thanks.

make the format of the numbers independant of the system
In the calculator, the format of the float depends of the language of the system.
0,2 in french for example.
0.2 in english.
That should be independant.3 votes -
Allow frequently used filters to be added to the common filters toolbar
It would be great if you could support a customizable toolbar option, so that I can add frequently used filters to the existing common filters toolbar, rather than having to navigate to Filters->Recent

Pack GUI widgets tighter on Mac
On Mac, all the GUI components have wide spacing (such as in the toolbars and the inspectors). Although this wide spacing is typical of Mac applications, ParaView has many more options than a typical application. All these GUI components are encroaching on the views and tend to make you have to scroll more through options. I thus advocate packing all the widgets tighter. Although it will look a bit less friendly, it will be more functional.

add X3Dom export to get a easy webgl rendere
ParaView has already a nice X3D exporter. Would be very easy and useful if somebody would create an additional X3Dom exporter by adding some static lines to the X3D exporter. This would allow to render the data with WebGL in a web-page without a plugin. Example: http://x3dom.org/x3dom/example/x3dom_paraviewExport.xhtml

Incorporate interactive deformation tools to manipulate meshs and contours
This could be very useful for those who want to interactively deform and visualize resulting meshes, similar to what is professionally available in many CAD packages. Simply click on a surface and extrude, or click on a mesh vertex and reposition

Add native support for reading in LAMMPS data.
It seems odd that despite Sandia's involvement in both LAMMPS and ParaView, ParaView can't read in native LAMMPS output files from simulations.

Snapping
Add a snapping function for sources, i.e. when creating for example splines, snapping of control points to re-existing features on the pipeline would be useful.
