  2. Direct visualization of NURBS --no discretization necessary!. NURBS is already a standard in computer graphics and the future of FEA (isogeometric analysis).

  3. I'm trying to place engine exhuasts on a car and need to identify regions of certain pressure. Solid colours are too blurred to define precisely such regions. Contour plots are great for this but need automatic labelling as an option

  4. I suggest to add the ability to read Abaqus files (.odb). After all it is a very popular code, and this way the post processing would also be possible on Linux/Mac.

  6. Some filters can take very long to finish. Also large datasets might take forever to render. It would be great if a user could press a stop button to stop these processes without having to kill paraview.

  7. It would be great to be able to save a session to a 3D pdf so that any model can be viewed by almost anyone without the need for any other viewers.

  8. It would be nice to have the ability to associate all kinds of Paraview actions with keyboard shortcuts. Currently, I see shortcuts only for basic actions like Open File etc.

    • for transient cases employing static meshes, provide a mechanism to cache the mesh so that it is not necessary to rebuild the complete visualization pipeline

  11. The Tecplot reader is very usefull, but it should be further improved because many Tecplot files (written by the user according to Tecplot format specifications or written by Tecplot itself !) still cannot be read !

I am usually using Structured grid, and the Tecplot reader works fine for most of my ASCII files, except for those that are written by Tecplot itself and that contain the STRANDID and SOLUTIONTIME tokens that are currently unsupported. I have to remove these unsupported tokens from all ZONE headers before reading with Paraview. May I suggest to ignore those unsupported tokens with just…

  12. It would be very useful if an option was available so that the user could save his/her current state, commands and data (including any new variables) inclusive within a single file. This would provide a unified, compressed dataset that is independent of platform being used to visualise it, not only making it portable but the user would not have to worry about the paths to the dataset and it could act as an emergency backup for the data. As far as I am aware, both Tecplot (*lpk) and Ensight have this feature available.

  14. I'd like to doing postprocess data files from StarCCM+ simulation, but now, with current version, it's possible only with ensight format export from StarCCM+ but I cannot display properly data (ex. Velocity Contours in block mode and not in smooth mode...)

  15. The glyph filter has the nice property which allows to scale the glyph. However, for all arrow glyphs, a better way of scaling would be to scale only the length of the arrow by a quantity instead of the whole arrow (shaft and tip thickness). This simply gives a much clearer overview if there are regions with big and small arrows in one domain.

  18. When importing a temporal file series (e.g. foo_N.vtk), paraview currently only recognizes N as an integer sequence (for instance where N=001,002,003,..). If the time series is named after a time represented by a float (e.g. N=0.5,1.0,1.5,... where you can think of that numbers as being seconds) the file series is not recognized.
Since naming a file after it's simulation time seems to be a fairly common practice, it would be helpful to expand the naming patterns and allow for N to be a float and not only an integer.

  20. Right now the text boxes in the GUI can display numbers of pretty much any precision. Although in general this is a good thing, it get really annoying if the boxes are displaying numbers with too much precision to fit in the text box. For example, if you rotate the camera with the mouse and then go the the Adjust Camera dialog, all the text boxes under Camaera Positions have a crazy amount of precision that makes it impossible to really read the numbers and hard to edit them. This happens in many other places in the GUI such as…
