There is the progress bar updating if I'm not mistaken. Also I suggest using pvpython for any actual serious animation export.

That would requires to render two times more frames. Not sure this is a good idea.

OpenDx being discontinued, I doubt anyone will work on that. If you can run OpenDx can you export the file to another format ?
