Paraview generated python script for the existing pipeline
It would be great if you could use Paraview to generate your visualisation and then export the pipeline in a python script.
As i understand, Paraview uses vtk for the rendering. But all of that functionality is hidden behind the scenes.
Being both a vtk and paraview user, i often felt the need of generating a viz. pipeline in paraview with ease of gui and then having a look at how it uses vtk to do what it does.
This feature, i believe, will facilitate learning of both Paraview and vtk platforms and show users how they work together and how to use one to learn more about the other.
In 5.4, you can save ParaView state as a Python script. Simply use “Save State” and choose *.py as the format to save in. Note however the script generated is not same as a VTK python script as ParaView provides higher abstractions on top of VTK.
Also, there’s Python tracing capability in ParaView that will help understand what action corresponds to what Python snippet, for example.
