  1. The /Applications/paraview.app/Contents/Info.plist should contain the version number in which would change it from:

    <key>CFBundleShortVersionString</key>
    <string></string>

    To:
    <key>CFBundleShortVersionString</key>
    <string>5.0.0</string>

in case of version 5.0.0. This allows for better MDM management of the version.

  2. For 3.6.0 the Mac install from cvs worked, namely the process ccmake, make, make install. I had been waiting for that for years, and was quite happy when it finally worked. But apparently it was not maintained from 3.6.0 to 3.6.2, because now it doesn't work. The worst part is that the GUI comes up and seems to function but generally crashes very quickly. There is no indication that the problem is with the install.

This will be supported with 5.5. Apply “Extract Time Steps” filter twice to extract the two timesteps of interest and apply “Plot over line” filter to each of the extract filters. Finally, you can show the output in the same Plot view to get the desired effect.

  4. only one of the top twenty ideas are things you're actually working on, and most of them were suggested years ago. maybe you should start looking into, say, the top five. just a thought.

the only items here that you've worked on are easy things you were going to implement anyway. clearly you only develop ideas you are specifically paid to develop. so why does this forum even exist?

  5. The calculator-filter in ParaView is slow compared to other visualisation packages - e.g. 4.4 slower then the one in FieldView.

For CFD-applications is quite critical to have a fast calculation method - therefore - please speedup the calculator ...

  8. It would be nice to export a set of images from timestep N1 to timestep N2 with a certain step DN (like each 3rd frame between timesteps 100 and 300).

With 5.5, this is supported as follows. Simply apply the “Extract TImesteps” filter to you reader and then move all pipelines coming out of your original reader to be based off this filter. You can customize which timesteps to process using parameterson “Extract Timesteps” filter.

  9. Add the possibility to plot atomistic structures with a "ball and stick" renderer rather having only the wireframe one.

This is now supported. Try opening a molecule file e.g. caffeine.pdb in VTKData. Various rendering modes are also available including “Ball and Stick”, “Space Filling” and “Liquorice”.

  10. Add the ability to add time varying annotation based on functions or filter output. Not just the animation time. (i.e. the max value of a contour or surface.) Or even support to modify animation time display so it shows in an hh:mm:ss format.

  11. At this moment we really struggle to get ParaView made visualizations into Oculus Rift environment. We are testing export of the scene with Unity 3D and Unreal engine and it is a lot of work to replicate the scene. Not mentioning that exported scene is static, have no options for turning layers/objects on/off and all the interactions/tools. When ParaView already has 3D --stereo mode dupport allowing a lot of --stereo-type like "Checkerboard" etc. It would be great to have "Oculus" as option there.

  12. There are some of us who live in areas without high speed internet. The main Paraview source tarball is an estimated 3 hour download, and I don't trust a web browser to do that correctly. Being able to resume downloads is important too. Simple direct text links will work fine.

  14. I read my tecplot file into Paraview, and Paraview does not recognize the u and v variables as the velocity components.
Paraview needs to be more flexible to take assignments of variables from user to generate streamlines

  15. Keep an option to have the Color Legend Title orientation as horizontal on top (or below) vertical color bars. version 5.4 now forces a vertical title that is sideways.

  16. Much more intuitive is the following assignment of mouse buttons:
Left - rotate (as is now)
Middle - zoom (both roller and drag, like in STARCCM+)
    Right - panning

  17. It worked up to 3.4, but no longer in 3.6. Would it be very difficult to re-introduce it?

ParaVIew still supports big-endian EnSight files. The detection of endianness is now automatic so there is no longer need for a combo box for endianness.

  18. title say it all, but I think the current design with xml "hints" needs some thought as well...

  20. Since v3.10 the precompiled binaries include MPI implementation to run ParaView in parallel, extremely handy!

My understanding is that such ParaView installation uses all cores it sees, desirable for one user workstations but problematic for many user systems.

Please consider adding a flag to the precompiled binaries for launching ParaView in "use only X CPU's" -mode.
