Color Legend Title orientation as horizontal
Keep an option to have the Color Legend Title orientation as horizontal on top (or below) vertical color bars. version 5.4 now forces a vertical title that is sideways.

Plot over line of different timesteps (frames) into same plot
Plot over line of different timesteps (frames) into same plot
3 votesThis will be supported with 5.5. Apply “Extract Time Steps” filter twice to extract the two timesteps of interest and apply “Plot over line” filter to each of the extract filters. Finally, you can show the output in the same Plot view to get the desired effect.

openfoam
The standard release of Paraview can read binary double precision OpenFOAM cases. It would be very useful if it could read binary and ascii and single and double precision natively. If it could autodetect the format and precision when reading the data in, this would also be extremely useful.

Alpha blending or opacity by data value
It would be great to set the opacity by a certain data value or set an alpha blending respectively.
E.g. you have a 3D object with a discrete density distribution. The density is illustrated by color. Every density value was determined with a certain accuracy. Now it would be great to illustrate cells with good accuracy opaque and cells will fade more and more by increasing errors.24 votes -

export screenshots (visible area) for a range of timesteps
It would be nice to export a set of images from timestep N1 to timestep N2 with a certain step DN (like each 3rd frame between timesteps 100 and 300).
3 votesWith 5.5, this is supported as follows. Simply apply the “Extract TImesteps” filter to you reader and then move all pipelines coming out of your original reader to be based off this filter. You can customize which timesteps to process using parameterson “Extract Timesteps” filter.

Reintroduce the advanced properties button for axis grid when pressed 'Edit'
The 'advanced properties' button for axis grid is missing since version 5.0. So it is not possible to change the visibility of certain axis lines. Only the complete axis grid can be displayed.

Temporal Derivative Filter
I'd like to have a filter that calculates the difference of my data (point data, cell data, etc.) compared to the previous time step, i.e. the time derivative of my data.

Title in Render View
It would be nice to have the possibility to display an adjustable title or description in a (render) view. E.g, if you have multiple views on screen showing different data sets and you make a screen-capture, it is not deducible which view shows which data. Some kind of caption that can be set and shown would really be helpful.
1 voteSupported (as of v5.1). See comments for details.

Change the order of sources in the pipeline
When using Paraview to compare multiple datasets, the order in which they appear in the pipeline is the order in which they are loaded. Thus, if a dataset needs to be unloaded and replaced with another, the new dataset is placed at the end of the pipeline rather than where the dataset it replaces was. This can lead to confusion when working with multiple similar datasets, as the order of appearance in the pipeline may not correspond to the logical order of the datasets (be it because of variations in the datasets themselves or in the way that they are…

OS X add application version Number in info.plist for paraview.app
The /Applications/paraview.app/Contents/Info.plist should contain the version number in which would change it from:
<key>CFBundleShortVersionString</key> <string></string>
To:
<key>CFBundleShortVersionString</key>
<string>5.0.0</string>in case of version 5.0.0. This allows for better MDM management of the version.

For mouse zoom, use the mouse pointer as center for the zoom
Instead of using the center of the screen (camera view) as zoom center.
Basically, this is the behavior of most CAD tools, and it eliminates the need to zoom and pan in two steps34 votes -
Include Sets for OpenFOAM cases
paraFoam (the OpenFOAM extension to Paraview) has a function to 'Include Sets/Zones' to show mesh sets from snappyHexMesh. Paraview is superb as a standalone tool. However, it lacks this one function.
Currently when using Paraview without the paraFoam module, for example on Windows, I cannot view mesh sets. It would be a greatly appreciated addition.
Thanks!

Oculus Rift support in ParaView
At this moment we really struggle to get ParaView made visualizations into Oculus Rift environment. We are testing export of the scene with Unity 3D and Unreal engine and it is a lot of work to replicate the scene. Not mentioning that exported scene is static, have no options for turning layers/objects on/off and all the interactions/tools. When ParaView already has 3D --stereo mode dupport allowing a lot of --stereo-type like "Checkerboard" etc. It would be great to have "Oculus" as option there.
