  2. The calculator-filter in ParaView is slow compared to other visualisation packages - e.g. 4.4 slower then the one in FieldView.

    For CFD-applications is quite critical to have a fast calculation method - therefore - please speedup the calculator ...

  3. Would be a nice feature to select a point in the data not only with the rubber-band but with a modus "next point". This means, clicking on a surface an hold e.g. <cntl> the nearest point relative to the cursor is selected.

  4. Currently the transform filter only works on data types that subclass vtkPointData. However, the transform filter should work on regular data like images and rectilinear grids too. Both of these types of grids can be translated or scaled by changing the origin or spacing between points. If some other transform is given (such as a rotation), then either of these grids can be converted to a vtkStructuredGrid (a curvilinear grid) with no more overhead than one would expect from a filter than generates new coordinate arrays. (In fact, it would be reasonable to always convert the grid to curvilinear.)

  5. only one of the top twenty ideas are things you're actually working on, and most of them were suggested years ago. maybe you should start looking into, say, the top five. just a thought.

    the only items here that you've worked on are easy things you were going to implement anyway. clearly you only develop ideas you are specifically paid to develop. so why does this forum even exist?

  6. It worked up to 3.4, but no longer in 3.6. Would it be very difficult to re-introduce it?

    ParaVIew still supports big-endian EnSight files. The detection of endianness is now automatic so there is no longer need for a combo box for endianness.

  7. Till now, it's not possible to format the Cube Axes deciding Font/Size of the text, thickness of the ticks, etc ...
    Font/Size of each axis' title is a very important feature: the size is usually quite big and the letters are super-imposed to the axis' lines.

    Adding this feature to Paraview would enhance it a lot

    Thanks

  8. It takes more effort that is necessary to rescale the colour bar, i.e.
    * click the colour scale editor
    * untick automatically rescale
    * click rescale range
    * update range in new dialog window
    * click rescale
    * close dialog

    Three suggestions:
    * Remove the unnecessary extra dialog for the range (include in the main dialog window)
    * Colour editor dialog could be available as a context menu from the 3D view
    * Middle click and drag could select the range from the 3D view

  9. It would be nice if the python command shell and other views were made dockable, with an autohide feature like Visual studio. This would be productivity boost., and would be a quick way of increasing the size of the view window.

  10. Paraview operates/implements a client-server paradigm. This suggests that it may be possible for an external (e.g. C++ application) to communicate with a running instance of Paraview, by sending it commands (e.g. open legacy VTK file) via the port attached to the server. Such a feature would be ideal for:

    • debugging programs that output VTK data.
    • automatically loading or unloading data to Paraview e.g. at the end of a smilation

  11. It would be nice to have a reload-button for time-dependend datasets. So you don't have to apply all your filters again if the simulation is evolved in time.

  12. it would be very useful to add a slider (near or under) the rendered data in "view" for navigating between the slices like the one in the "object inspector".
    cheers

  13. Users have wanted this for at least 5 years (see http://www.paraview.org/pipermail/paraview/2004-September/000836.html), and it was never done. There is a user-made patch by Christian Becker that has been in Mantis for two years (see http://public.kitware.com/Bug/bug_view_page.php?bug_id=2887).

  17. When working in large pipelines, it's common to copy some filter properties between different instances. It would be very handy if there was a copy and paste or, maybe, a clone filter.

    commit abd9d370af75477456e226855a3f84e5a407e669
    Author: Utkarsh Ayachit
    Date: Tue Dec 7 12:11:56 2010 -0500

    Added support to copy properties. Simply right click on a source or use the “Copy Properties” action from the Edit menu.
  18. It would be extremely useful to have a parallel coordinates view of data arrays, but especially if there were selection tools on the axes which would act as threshold filters on the data. Brushing linked to coloring in the views would also be nice for quick associations between data values and locations in the view. All of this would naturally extend to scatter (and other) plots, as well. I think the addition of this type of interactive probe/query capability would really enhance ParaView as a tool for understanding quantitative spatial data.

  19. For 3.6.0 the Mac install from cvs worked, namely the process ccmake, make, make install. I had been waiting for that for years, and was quite happy when it finally worked. But apparently it was not maintained from 3.6.0 to 3.6.2, because now it doesn't work. The worst part is that the GUI comes up and seems to function but generally crashes very quickly. There is no indication that the problem is with the install.
