  1. It would be nice to have a reload-button for time-dependend datasets. So you don't have to apply all your filters again if the simulation is evolved in time.

  2. Users have wanted this for at least 5 years (see http://www.paraview.org/pipermail/paraview/2004-September/000836.html), and it was never done. There is a user-made patch by Christian Becker that has been in Mantis for two years (see http://public.kitware.com/Bug/bug_view_page.php?bug_id=2887).

  4. Till now, it's not possible to format the Cube Axes deciding Font/Size of the text, thickness of the ticks, etc ...
    Font/Size of each axis' title is a very important feature: the size is usually quite big and the letters are super-imposed to the axis' lines.

    Adding this feature to Paraview would enhance it a lot

    Thanks

  6. Data format documentation is available through ONE document only, the slighlty outdated article "File Formats for VTK Version 4.2". I spent money on the paraview guide, but also nothing there. Paraview is a great program, but the documentation situation is absurd! Please help!!

  8. When using Paraview to compare multiple datasets, the order in which they appear in the pipeline is the order in which they are loaded. Thus, if a dataset needs to be unloaded and replaced with another, the new dataset is placed at the end of the pipeline rather than where the dataset it replaces was. This can lead to confusion when working with multiple similar datasets, as the order of appearance in the pipeline may not correspond to the logical order of the datasets (be it because of variations in the datasets themselves or in the way that they are…

  11. When rendering surfaces, you are only able to set colors in the color map. You should also be able to set the opacity for each control point as you can with volumes. (Bug 6129)

    This is supported in ParaView 3.98.0. The Color Scale Editor dialog adds an option to “Enable Opacity Function” for surfaces. When checked, users can specify the opacity function to use, similar to that specified for volumes.

  12. When working in large pipelines, it's common to copy some filter properties between different instances. It would be very handy if there was a copy and paste or, maybe, a clone filter.

    commit abd9d370af75477456e226855a3f84e5a407e669
    Author: Utkarsh Ayachit
    Date: Tue Dec 7 12:11:56 2010 -0500

    Added support to copy properties. Simply right click on a source or use the “Copy Properties” action from the Edit menu.
  13. It could be awesome if we could use the power of the Matplotlib Qt backend for XY plot. It could really improve and enhance the usability of the XY plot module of Paraview with awesome python scripting possibility.

  14. It would be nice to have the ability to draw ellipsoids or specify a major/minor axis at each point and glyph an ellipse at each point using those axes.

    There is a feature request for an ellipsoid source here:

  15. It would be an enhancement to ParaView's output capabilities to allow for transparent backgrounds when saving data as, e.g., PNG screenshots.
    Right now, there's always a rectangular bounding box in the way independent of the geometrical structure.

    This is supported since ParaView 4.2. The setting can be accessed from the Settings dialog, General Tab. Search for “Transparent Background” under the advanced settings.

  16. Instead of using the center of the screen (camera view) as zoom center.
    Basically, this is the behavior of most CAD tools, and it eliminates the need to zoom and pan in two steps

  18. It takes more effort that is necessary to rescale the colour bar, i.e.
    * click the colour scale editor
    * untick automatically rescale
    * click rescale range
    * update range in new dialog window
    * click rescale
    * close dialog

    Three suggestions:
    * Remove the unnecessary extra dialog for the range (include in the main dialog window)
    * Colour editor dialog could be available as a context menu from the 3D view
    * Middle click and drag could select the range from the 3D view

  19. In some modeling software, when you are in transform mode (ie the transform filter) you can select a particular axis to translate/rotate about by pressing 'x', 'y', or 'z' before performing the operation. It is very hard to position an object in 3d without that ability. Maybe by clicking the "balls" at the end of the transform axes with different buttons you could specify that functionality.

  20. It is often useful to check distance between parts of a 3D geometry you are viewing and processing. This could be achieved with a ruler tool That would give not only the distance magnitude between two points, but also x, y and z distances.
